Dr. Samuel Masket![]() Samuel Masket is an honors graduate of New York Medical College, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Honor Medical Society. Following a one year Internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Masket served a four year Residency at New York Medical College and had a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. After two years of active duty with the United States Navy, Dr. Masket relocated to Southern California where he has practiced ophthalmic surgery since 1977. Although Dr. Masket maintains a very active practice, he is heavily involved in clinical research, academics, and the teaching of eye surgery. Dr. Masket is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA Center for Health Sciences and former Chairman of the Cataract Special Interest Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has published extensively on eye surgery and serves on the Editorial Board of several journals and is the Consultation Section editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has recently published a textbook entitled, Atlas of Cataract Surgery, regarding the current state of cataract and related surgery. He has been an invited guest surgeon and lecturer throughout the world and presented the 22nd Binkhorst Medal Lecture at the 1998 annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. His colleagues have voted him to be included in the "Best Doctors of America" and LA Magazine listed him as a "Best Doctor in LA". In addition to his interest in cataract rehabilitation, Dr. Masket has performed LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery (the surgery to reduce the need for eye glasses) for more than 15 years. He has published on new methods for LASIK and he has been clinical Monitor for FDA investigations of new surgical methods and products.
